Drinking Water Filtration Technology
Every water treatment technology has individual strengths in removing contaminants. In all applications a combination of technologies is optimal in reaching each customer's pure water goal.
With over twenty years of experience specializing in water purification, you can depend on American Water Systems' professionals to design a water filtration system that will fit your organization's specific needs.
Sediment Filters
for Drinking Water Purification
Typically used as pre-treatment water filters for other technologies
Effective at removing suspended materials, such as sand, silt, loose scale, clay or organic matter
Water filter removes insoluble iron and manganese
Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) & Carbon Block Water Filters
Absorptive/Reactive water filter
Removes organic compounds indlucing volatile organic chemicals, radon, chlorine - and some heavy metals
Mechanically remove particles down to 0.5 micron, including Giardia and Cryptospordium, turbity and particulates
Not generally effective at removing dissolved inorganic contaminants such as minerals/salts
Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membranes for Drinking Water Purification
Flters water through a synthetic membrane trapping impurities - impurities are transported to a drain and purified water is sent to storage tank
Removes nearly all dissolved solids or minerals and radiologicals
Highly effective in removing dissolved salts - great for desalination applications and areas with high concentration of nitrates/heavy metals
Creates a waste stream of impure water
NanoCeramic Filtration for Drinking Water Purification
The NanoCeramic Filter is a highly electropositive water filter that rapidly absorbs particles, no matter how small. The media has a high capacity for particles as large as tens of microns or as small as a few nanometers. A single layer of media retains greater than 99% of 30 nanometers. (.30 microns) monodisperse latex spheres or 25 nanometer virus, giving it an Absolute rating of .03 microns.
Effective over pH 5-10, water temperatures of 4 - 50 degrees C and in the presence of dissolved salts
Separates particles by charge rather than by size
Higher retentivity for virus than "Absolute" ultra porous membrane water filters
Endotoxin removal > 99.96%
DNA removal > 99.5%
Pleated versions have 5-8 times higher dirt holding capacity than typical cartridges
Water filtration efficiency for micron size particles > 99.995%
High Particle removal efficiency
No waste streams
UltraViolet Light Sterilization
for Drinking Water Purification
Water that is not completely clear is not effectively sanitized by UV
Affects waterborne contaminants and disease causing pathogens at a 99 % kill rate
Bulbs must be changed every year to ensure maximum efficiency
Inserted as the last piece of a water filtration system
Ozone Sterilization for Drinking Water Purification
Most effective sterilizing method available today
Generates a supply of ozone (O3) electronically
Employs a significant residual effect
Very useful for treating water stored in tanks, such as cooler reservoirs
Highly effective in destroying pathogens, when its work is completed pathogens break down into oxygen
Added dissolved oxygen enhances water's taste
